This trick will show you how to build so popular reflections of images of text in Photoshop. So if you up to making design like those samples below or better, I am going to try to help.

It will be simplest tutorial, which if you will practice you can build up to quite impressive effects. This will allow you to get started and put you on right directions. I will organize step by step whole tutorial by screen shot images.

It is like cooking with Jamie or Gordon, following what they are doing yourself. Take your time, do it your own way but do it consciously to learn from it.

STEP 1:

We goint to start from recently taken picture, up to yourself, you can get one from net (pixdaus.com) or take a shot yourself. Be aware of copyright when you ‘borrowing’ the picture. Don’t ‘borrow’ personal pictures of someone, thats for sure. Just make sure before you will publish your outcome after that picture you were working on are not protected by any copyrights and you not damaging someones intellectual property. I have used image called ‘still water.jpg’. This is the screen of that picture after importing it to Photoshop:

After this lets you can simply enter some text you want to do reflection of, or import second image, like we going to do in our example.

STEP 2:

Importing second image or entering text.

STEP 3:

Duplicate layer (image 2 or entered text)

STEP 4:

Now we need flip the duplicated image 2 layer upside down:

Go ‘Edit’ – > ‘Transform’ -> ‘Flip vertical’

STEP 5:

Adjust the duplicated image 2. Simply select the right layer on right hand side menu, then select ‘Move Tool (V)’ from left menu and slide down duplicated image 2 layer with down arrow key or with mouse.

STEP 6:

Now we going to implement ‘Perspective’ effect to both image 2 and duplicate image 2 layers. To apply the tool to both layers at the same time just select both layers on right hand side menu with your mouse holding left CTRL key on your keyboard.  (To apply Perspective tool to Text layer, we have transformed it to resterized smart object). Then select

‘Edit’ – > ‘ Transform’ – > ‘Perspective’

With your mouse adjust the picture to suit your requirements.

STEP 7:

Now select duplicate image 2 layer on the right hand side, and above it there is ‘Opacity’ option. Us to scroll bar or type in the box the percentage of transparency. I have test with several and decided 21% will suit me the best.

STEP 8:

And on the end just to polish it we going to use ‘Eraser Tool (E) in ‘Brush mode’ format. Simply select Eraser Tool on left hand side menu, then from top menu select format : brush. Next set Opacity to required level of transparency (we will use 21%) and erace the bottom of the duplicated image 2 layer creating transparent gradient effect.

10 min 3D Photoshop reflection effect – DONE!
